Neighborhood Attractions

There are a number of community events either within walking distance or a short Metro / Georgetown Connector ride from River Place. The following events occur regularly. Seasonal events are noted. All events are accessible to handicapped persons.

 

  • Millennium Stage - The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts free performances every evening at 6 PM on the Millennium Stage. Take the Metro Orange Line 1 stop to Foggy Bottom and either walk or catch the free Kennedy Center Shuttle every 15 minutes until midnight. The Kennedy Center is home to the National Symphony Orchestra and hosts a full schedule of performance events.

  • Rosslyn Farmers Market - May through November. On Thursdays, 11 AM to 4 PM. Local growers sell fresh produce. In Metro Park across Lynn Street from Olson's Books.li>

  • Rosslyn Spectrum - The Rosslyn Spectrum Theatre and Conference Center hosts stage performances and film screenings. Enjoy jazz, Caribbean, chamber, and a cappella music, live theatre, and an annual film festival. The gallery in the lobby features rotating exhibitions by visual artists from Arlington.   • U.S. Marine Corps Sunset Parade - Summer months. The U.S. Marine Band and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team perform a sunset parade every Tuesday evening at the Marine Corps Memorial, also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial. Walk south on Lynn Street 2 blocks. Free.

  • U.S. Army Band Concerts - Winter months. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the U.S. Army Band performs at Fort Myer, featuring ensembles and soloists. Free. Fort Myer is just south of River Place. Due to heightened security, call for base entry instructions. (703) 696-3399..

  • Washington Walks - April thru October. Walking tours of DC points of interest led by licensed and knowledgeable guides. Tour DC's neighborhoods, Embassy Row, "America's Main Street" Pennsylvania Avenue outside the White House, and an evening tour of the Lincoln Memorial called Goodnight, Mr. Lincoln. $10 adults, $5 children.
